Establishing a Sexual and Reproductive Health Clinic in Central America

LOCATION:
Central America

PARTNERS:
ESAR and a sophisticated network of medical professionals and volunteers who help women access reproductive health services.

FUNDER:
Morris S. Smith Foundation

20% of girls in Central America become mothers before they reach 18 years of age.

THE NEED:

There is currently no option for a women to obtain certain reproductive health services in the country we are working, even if her life is at risk.

OUR APPROACH:

Optio is setting up the first operational volunteer-led reproductive health clinic in Central America. We are funding the creation and first year of operations for the clinic, which will provide a space where reproductive health services can be carried out by women safely and privately. The clinic will also provide follow up medical exams, counseling, birth control, and referrals for cases of sexual violence.
