Problem
The risk of maternal mortality is highest in countries with restrictive laws, where women are more likely to use dangerous methods and to avoid seeking help in case of an emergency.
Innovation
The national courts in Honduras have an obligation to make court decisions that reflect women’s right to health as stated by international treaties and human rights protocols that Honduras has ratified. We are generating evidence that will support a constitutional claim to liberalize an existing reproductive rights law in Honduras.
Next Steps
If the constitutional claim passes, we will work with local lawyers and activists to adapt existing medical policies and procedures to the new law.
