Accompaniment training

Problem

In Central America, reproductive rights networks are some of the only resources available to women in need of reproductive health services that are restricted by the government. Unfortunately, these groups have very few resources to carry out their work and risk their lives to give women the information they need. Most of these networks are not even protected by freedom of information laws, due to the restrictive legal settings within which they operate.

Innovation

We are running a training program that aims to improve the sustainability, safety and reach of reproductive rights networks in Central America. Each of the tools and modules, designed by medical and digital security experts from the region, were successfully piloted in Nicaragua and El Salvador in 2019, and are now being implemented on a regional level. The outcome of the training will be for each reproductive rights network to:

• Maintain and update security and accompaniment protocols.
• Safely track information about each of the women their network accompanies using a secure registry database.
• Follow up with the women they accompany in a safe and systematic way.
• Have a compilation of all the consistent access to other reproductive rights networks in the region.
• Take care care of the emotional needs of the network members.

Next Steps

Upon completion of the training program, the leaders of each reproductive rights network will host workshops in their respective countries, passing their knowledge to each of the network’s members.
