Optio’s Legal Team Works with Central American Partners to Create Regional Policy Lab

This year, Optio has been working closely with our local partners in Guatemala and El Salvador to create a specialized policy lab, which will develop new approaches to liberalize restrictive reproductive health policies in Central America. Within the lab, we  do research on i) key actors that criminalize women (i.e. medical personnel), ii) common types of evidence used against women, and iii) cases that highlight the advances and/or setbacks of national jurisprudence around the right to health and reproductive rights. We are also working with our local partners to develop decriminalization strategies, tools for monitoring the reproductive rights policy context in each country, and legal assistance for those who have been criminalized.
