At least 50 women have been criminalized for abortion over the last decade in Honduras.
THE NEED:
In many parts of Latin America, women are unjustly criminalized for abortion or related miscarriage or obstetric events. After facing legal persecution, stigma, and incarceration, survivors often struggle to regain their footing. Without structured psychosocial and economic support, many are left isolated, disempowered, and without the resources to rebuild their lives or advocate for themselves.
OUR APPROACH:
The Survivors’ Voices program supports the healing, autonomy, and leadership of women who have been criminalized for abortion—many of whom we have legally represented in the past or continue to support. The program combines psychological care protocols, educational opportunities, entrepreneurship initiatives, and individualized life plans to foster long-term empowerment. Survivors’ Voices ensures that women have the confidence, resources, and skills to rebuild their lives with dignity.
IMPACT:
Through psychosocial support, life planning, and direct economic assistance, Survivors’ Voices helps women reclaim their futures. One beneficiary has resumed her studies through a scholarship and is on track to complete her secondary education, while four others—criminalized and later acquitted—have launched a joint entrepreneurship project to support themselves and their families with a sustainable income.
