Optio’s report, “Invisible Voices: Contextual Analysis and Data on the Criminalization of Women and Girls Due to the Absolute Abortion Ban in Honduras,” examines the consequences that highly restrictive abortion laws have on the lives of women, adolescents, and girls, particularly those in situations of greater vulnerability. Drawing on both quantitative and qualitative evidence, the study demonstrates how the legal framework in Honduras not only limits access to essential health services, but also contributes to the criminalization of obstetric emergencies, thereby deepening gender, social, and economic inequalities.
The report underscores the importance of adopting a victim-centered approach that guarantees access to justice, health, and dignity for women and girls in Honduras, recognizing their rights and promoting a more equitable and humane system.
