ACCESS TO ESSENTIAL HEALTHCARE
We ensure that women and girls can safely and easily access the essential reproductive health services and medicines they need. By strengthening supply chains, improving the knowledge and skills of providers and advocates, and providing clear, accurate information about available options, we help women and girls make empowered decisions about their reproductive lives—grounded in knowledge, dignity, and choice.
FEATURED PROJECTS
20%
of girls in Central America become mothers before they reach 18.
PROJECT: Providing Safety and Accompaniment Training for Sexual and Reproductive Health Advocates
IMPACT: Optio ensures that the volunteers who accompany women to obtain reproductive health services have the knowledge and tools to keep themselves and the women they are supporting safe.
An average of 16 women in Central America die every day from pregnancy or childbirth.
PROJECT: Expanding Access to Emergency Contraception in Honduras
IMPACT: Optio ensured access to emergency contraception (EC) following its legalization by securing product registration, training providers and counselors, reducing costs, and enabling national distribution through key partnerships. In 2024, we expanded into public sector systems—training IHSS staff, reaching over 1,000 community members, and ensuring EC access for marginalized groups through targeted grassroots initiatives.
