Optio, in partnership with ASHONPLAFA, carried out a series of health fairs and awareness-raising workshops in communities and educational centers across Olancho, Honduras, to strengthen access to information on sexual and reproductive health and rights.

The initiative brought together adolescents, young people, and community members in participatory learning spaces designed to provide accurate, accessible, and practical information about key health topics. Through interactive activities and educational sessions, participants gained knowledge and tools to make informed decisions about their health and well-being.

The health fairs and workshops addressed a range of issues, including the prevention of sexually transmitted infections (STIs), menstrual health, family planning, HPV vaccination, and emergency contraception. Participants also received educational materials and practical guidance to help reinforce learning and connect them with available health resources and services.

In addition to providing information, the activities created opportunities to better understand the challenges that many individuals face when seeking healthcare. Through community engagement and dialogue, barriers to accessing sexual and reproductive health services were identified, helping inform future efforts to strengthen healthcare access in the region.

As part of the initiative, donations of emergency contraception were made to health facilities and Municipal Women’s Offices in Catacamas and Juticalpa, helping to expand the availability of essential reproductive health resources for women and girls in these communities.

Strengthening access to information and essential health services is critical to promoting healthier communities and advancing reproductive rights. Through partnerships with local organizations and institutions, these efforts contribute to reducing barriers to care and ensuring that more people can access the information and resources they need to protect their health and exercise their rights.
