Following the devastation of Hurricane Julia, Optio provided reproductive health kits to women and adolescent girls displaced in La Ceiba, one of the most severely affected regions.
Hurricane Julia left a trail of destruction across the Atlántida department, displacing more than 35,000 people. Communities suffered massive flooding, damaged infrastructure, and the collapse of local health services—conditions that left women and girls especially vulnerable. In overcrowded shelters, they faced a lack of privacy, limited access to hygiene products, and little to no availability of essential sexual and reproductive health care.
Optio, alongside other grassroots organizations in the region, will continue working to ensure that sexual and reproductive health services are not sidelined in humanitarian responses, and that the rights and voices of women remain at the center of recovery efforts.
